Title of Talk: WHERE DO ART IDEAS COME FROM? THE MIXED MEDIA SCULPTURE OF KATHY ROSS
My most recent presentation involves a little (non-threatening) audience participation. It describes my art process, humorously and seriously. The source of art ideas. Dealing with negative input (from inside, from outside). Art as a medium of communication. The business of Art. Life at art festivals in really bad weather. Economic pressures on creativity. I bring examples, offer advice, my list of favourite glues. I bring a box of the strange ingredients of mixed media art. I can do this with or without accompanying projected photos. It’s set up to take up an hour, but is flexible. Payment sliding scale.
I have done recent talks at:
- The International Bead Society really enjoyed it (April 2015).
- Peninsula Art Association. (June 2015)
- P.O.E. in Shelton. (Sept 2015)
I quite enjoy speaking engagements. (what kind of introvert am I anyway!? I think maybe a better term would be: sociable recluse.) And have done many, over the years. I haven’t exactly kept a list. But it did start with winning impromptu public speaking awards when i was in High School. I have done talks and slide shows for Seattle Women’s Caucus for Art, Pratt Fine Arts, Stonington gallery in Seattle, Stanwood WA (gallery), Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Green River Community College, Shoreline Community College, Moraga middle school (California).
